The best online yoga videos for kids stuck at home during Covid-19

We get it. The kids are simply restless at home during this time. The playgrounds are a no-go zone; the beaches are out of bounds. What on earth are we going to do to let kids expend that pent-up energy?

Let’s not forget too they may be feeling the effects of not seeing their friends and getting used to a new schedule. It’s one reason why Cosmic Kids Yoga videos have been so immensely popular - the site provides themed videos such as Frozen Yoga, Pokemon Yoga, Star Wars Yoga to entice kids to work out, learn to breathe and calm down while giving them a sense of normalcy during these times.

Besides the awesome Cosmic Kids Yoga, there are several Singapore-based and international kids yoga platforms you can turn to. Here are several we have compiled for you:

  1. Alo Yoga

Yes, Alo Yoga (the super cult yogawear brand every yogi is coveting) has videos tailed just for kids on YouTube too, like this Dino Yoga video below as part of their Alo Gives initiative. Videos are usually short, ranging 5 to 7 minutes. Alo Yoga also offers a 15-minute kids video session with one of their teachers, which we tried and found pretty good.

2. Hom Yoga

This popular Singapore studio which offers kids classes has kindly prepared and uploaded a whole series of videos on their Online Studio page. It’s great for parents, but what’s more awesome are the two videos available for prenatal yoga and kids yoga.

Remember when we wrote about June and her blend of yoga and dance for kids? June has been uploading snippets of her kids yoga session on her IGTV and is also currently offering discounted kids lessons via Zoom on the weekends. There’s a 11am class this Saturday (April 18) where she does a special reading and teaching of poses from the book “I Am Yoga” . This would be followed by Sunday classes at the same time on the subsequent weekends. DM June @joyfulblossom_yogadance for more details on how you can join or visit her website www.joyfulblossomyogadance.com/.

4. Yvonne Yoga Room

Yvonne did a special superheroes themed workshop with us at A Mindful Space. The video clip is available on our IGTV channel.

We’ve been working with teacher Yvonne for a long time (full disclosure: she’s Claire’s yoga teacher). What we love about Yvonne’s lessons is how creative she gets with themes and concepts to suit the occasion. You can watch our full 15-minutes kids superhero IGTV lesson here. Yvonne is currently doing a storybook-based yoga session twice a week over Zoom. (This week was Gruffalo!). Lessons are pay as you wish. DM her @Yvonne.Yogaroom.Space to book a virtual mat.

So now that you have these options, are you ready to get the kids started? You really don’t need a lot - just a bit of space, 5 to 20 minutes of their time (depending on which video you choose) and a good yoga mat to cushion their hands and feet.

If you know more great online yoga videos for kids or are a kids yoga teacher who’d like to be included, please drop me a line at chalkandchakras@gmail.com so I can add on to this list.
